Hire Senior LatAm Developers in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile

Kulturo is a tech recruitment agency founded in Barcelona, Spain, and one of its two cofounders is Argentine, so Latin America has been part of our story since the first day.

Today, with that cofounder and a team on the ground in Buenos Aires, we help US companies hire senior LatAm developers in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile: as direct hires on a one-time success fee, or through monthly staff augmentation where we handle the contract and payroll.

A Barcelona agency with Argentina in its DNA

Kulturo was born in Barcelona, but it was never only a Spanish story. One of the agency's two cofounders, Damián Legasa, is Argentine. For Kulturo, Latin America is not a new market spotted on a map: the connection has been there since the first conversation about building the agency.

Pol Guasch and Damián Legasa started Kulturo to build the recruitment agency they would have wanted to find themselves: close to the people involved, specialised in technical roles, and honest about what it can and cannot do. More than 75 tech companies have hired through Kulturo since then, and our clients come from more than 8 countries, the United States among them.

Several US companies already hire engineers through Kulturo fully remote, as contractors working from Spain. What a US team wants from a remote engineer rarely changes: real seniority, clear English and a working day that overlaps with its own. Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile offer all three, and Argentina is a country Kulturo knows from the inside.

Two ways to hire LatAm developers with Kulturo

US companies hire LatAm developers through Kulturo in one of two ways: a direct hire, where the engineer joins your team and you pay a one-time success fee, or staff augmentation, where the engineer works full time on your team and Kulturo handles the contract and payroll for a monthly rate. For a role that matters for years, Kulturo recommends a direct hire.

Direct hire

The engineer works for your company. Across LatAm, most US companies hire engineers as contractors on a fixed monthly fee; an employer of record (EOR) or your own local entity are the alternatives. Kulturo charges on a success-fee basis only: you pay once, when you hire.

Staff augmentation

The engineer works full time inside your team, in your tools and your rituals, while Kulturo takes care of the contract and payroll. Nearshore staff augmentation is the faster route when you need someone in the seat soon, or want to work together before making it permanent.

Why LatAm for US engineering teams

Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile give a US engineering team real-time collaboration: all four sit within two hours of New York, so a team can mix engineers from Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Bogotá and Santiago without changing its working day.

Real-time collaboration, not overnight handoffs

All four countries sit between UTC−5 and UTC−3. Bogotá is level with New York or 1 hour behind it; Buenos Aires and Montevideo are 1 to 2 hours ahead; Santiago is level with New York or up to 2 hours ahead, depending on the season. Standups, code reviews and incidents happen inside the same working day.

English that holds up in a design review

Argentina ranks 26th worldwide in the EF English Proficiency Index 2025. English still varies across the region and from one engineer to the next, so Kulturo tests it in a live conversation with every candidate, because a ranking is not a person.

A market we know from the inside

With an Argentine cofounder and a team on the ground in Buenos Aires, Kulturo knows what senior engineers across LatAm expect from a US employer, and what makes them stay once they have joined.

How we hire: the same boutique process we run in Spain

Kulturo runs the same process in LatAm as in Spain: a technical kick-off, direct search by our own team, a technical interview, a short shortlist and support until the offer is signed. It works because we are technicians and recruiters, and we still don't know which we like best.

  1. 01. We start with your stack and your team

One meeting to understand the role, the stack, the culture and what a great hire looks like for your team.

  2. 02. Direct search by our own team

Kulturo's own recruiters search actively, not only through job ads, combining the network Kulturo has built since Barcelona with direct outreach to engineers across Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile.

  3. 03. We validate the work, not the buzzwords

Every candidate goes through a technical conversation about real projects, plus a live conversation in English.

  4. 04. A few engineers who fit, not a pile of CVs

You meet a short list of engineers who match the role and the team. Kulturo's published target is a first batch of validated candidates in under 7 days.

  5. 05. We stay until the offer is signed

Kulturo helps with the offer, the counteroffer and the hiring route that fits you: a contractor agreement, your EOR, your own entity or staff augmentation. Kulturo's published target is 30 days from kick-off to signed offer, before the candidate's notice period.

The roles we recruit in LatAm

Kulturo only recruits technical and digital profiles, with the same specialisms in Latin America as in Spain. AI engineering gets the deepest technical screen, because it is where similar job titles hide the biggest differences in real experience. That includes forward deployed engineers (FDEs): engineers who embed with customers to deploy and adapt the product, often an AI product, to how each customer works. These are the roles and stacks we recruit; the full list is on every role we recruit.

Frequently asked questions about hiring LatAm developers

How much does it cost to hire a senior developer in LatAm?
The cost depends on the hiring route. With a direct hire you pay the engineer's fee or salary, the cost of the hiring route (usually a contractor agreement, otherwise an EOR or your own entity) and a one-time success fee to Kulturo. With staff augmentation you pay a single monthly all-in rate, quoted per role. As a market reference, senior software engineers are typically paid US$4,000–7,000 per month in Argentina, US$4,000–6,000 in Uruguay, US$3,000–6,000 in Colombia and US$4,000–7,000 in Chile, based on published rate data from LatAm hiring platforms (2026). Those senior ranges are what the engineer is paid: they exclude Kulturo's success fee, and they are not the staff augmentation rate, which is quoted per role. These ranges assume conversational English; if the role works with more limited English, pay can be up to 20% lower.
Do I need a legal entity in Latin America to hire a developer?
No. Most US companies hire engineers in Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile as contractors, on a fixed monthly fee under a contractor agreement. An employer of record (EOR) that employs the engineer on your behalf, or your own local entity, are the alternatives. With staff augmentation through Kulturo you need none of them, because Kulturo handles the contract and payroll. Kulturo does not give tax or legal advice, so check your specific case with a local adviser.
What is the difference between a recruiting agency and staff augmentation?
A recruiting agency finds the engineer and you hire them: you pay once, and the engineer works for your company. A staff augmentation provider places the engineer on your team and handles the contract and payroll for a monthly rate. Kulturo offers both, and recommends a direct hire for long-term roles.
How much time-zone overlap do LatAm developers have with the US?
Argentina, Uruguay, Colombia and Chile all sit between UTC−5 and UTC−3. Bogotá is level with New York or 1 hour behind it; Buenos Aires and Montevideo are 1 to 2 hours ahead; Santiago is level with New York or up to 2 hours ahead, depending on the season. An engineer in any of the four shares the whole working day with an East Coast team and a good part of it with a West Coast one.
Can I start with staff augmentation and hire the developer directly later?
Yes. Staff augmentation with Kulturo includes a contract-to-hire option: once you are sure about the engineer, they can join your company directly, on conditions agreed before the engagement starts.
Do you also hire in Spain?
Yes. Spain is where Kulturo started, and we keep helping companies hire across Spain and Europe. If you are weighing both options, our comparison of hiring in Spain, Portugal, Poland and Latin America puts talent pools, salaries and time zones side by side.
